Lopez’s Goal Gives Women’s Soccer Water-Logged Win

LAKELAND, Fla.—The fifth goal of the season by Naira Lopez gave Southeastern a 1-0 win over Middle Georgia State Thursday night.

Makayla Peddycoart launched a ball from the midfield line to Naira Lopez near the top of the box, who split two defenders and took an off-balance shot with her right foot while falling to the rain-soaked field and put it in the center of the net in the 14th minute of the game.

Lopez has scored in all four games this season for the 4-0 Fire.

Southeastern controlled possession throughout the contest and outshot the Knights by the count of 11-2 in the first half and finished with a 16-4 advantage.

The Fire had a couple opportunities in the second half but they were both saved by Middle Georgia (2-2-1) keeper Mason Schilling.

Holly Eddins made two saves to earn her third win of the season and first shutout of the year.

The Fire return to action on Saturday at home against No. 23 Grace at 3 p.m.
