Fire Top the Lions 3-1


LAKELAND, Fla. - The Southeastern University Fire evened their record in the Sun Conference to 2-2 with their 3-1 win over the Florida Memorial Lions. 

 

In set one, the Fire jumped out in front early and ended on a 10-4 run with the help of eight total service aces. Holly Kaczmarek and Ryanne VanWyk had three aces. 

 

In the second set, the Fire saw two early lead changes before the Lions put together an impressive run to lead as many as six with the score being 20-14. Fire did their best to rally back but costly errors resulted in dropping the set 25-22. 

 

Set three saw the Fire open with a 6-0 run, and eventually extending their lead to as much as nine with a 14-5 lead. The Fire capitalized off of all 11 errors from Florida Memorial to take the set 25-19.

 

The Fire found themselves trailing the majority of the fourth set but staying within reach to ultimately make the comeback to close it out. This set saw four lead changes as the Fire eventually came from behind, going on a 5-1 run to take the 27-25 victory. 

 

Southeastern led in all categories including kills (50), digs (68), blocks (8), and assists (41). 

 

Bailey Warneke, Grace Petty, and Chapel Cunnigham led the team with nine kills each. Petty also led the team in digs with 22 and Emily Eurice led the team with 16 assists. 

 

The Fire return to action Wednesday, September 28th to host Coastal Georgia.
