Volleyball Drops Battle with First-Place Keiser

LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern got off to a quick start in its Sun Conference home opener, but was unable to keep pace with Keiser, dropping a 3-1 contest Saturday afternoon.

Five SEU blocks in the first set kept the Seahawks attack percentage to just .157. On offense, the Fire posted their best hitting percentage at .318 and racking up a total of 19 kills and came away with a 29-27 win.

Keiser (21-3, 2-0 SUN) turned things around in the second, posting 16 kills and a .382 success rate in a 25-21 win.

Seven service errors by the Seahawks in the third opened the door for the Fire, but eight attack errors by SEU swung momentum back the other direction and gave KU a 26-24 win.

Both teams got the offense going in the fourth with Keiser posting a match-best 18 kills in the final set with a .368 success rate in a 25-22 win.

Grace Petty led the way with a double-double effort of 14 kills, 16 digs, and added four blocks. Baylee Warneke added 11 kills and three blocks and Kennedy Jones was also in double figures with 10 kills. Holly Kaczmarek posted a match-best 21 digs and Chapel Cunningham added three blocks on defense.

Alexandra Postlethwaite had 24 assists and Ryanna VanWyk added 23.

The Fire return to action on Wednesday at Ave Maria.
