LEWISTON, Idaho—Southeastern had its 21-game win streak ended in the national championship to set up a winner-take-all finale today at 8:45 Eastern.
Lewis-Clark State played four in the second and four more in the fourth to set up a 10-9 victory to force the if necessary game.
This was the Fire's first loss in the 10-team double-elimination tournament hosted by LC State.
Brian Fuentes homered three times in the contest in to try to get the Fire (58-4) back in it.
Shamir Morales had an RBI single in the second and
Thomas Broyles had a sacrifice fly to give the Fire a 2-0 lead.
Southeastern made a push in the seventh, getting a two-run homer from Broyles and the third homer of the game by Fuentes to get within two at 9-7, but the Warriors manufactured a run with two outs in the bottom of the inning to go back up three.
The Fire got the game to one in the top of the ninth with a two-out, two-run single by
Isaac Nunez, but a strikeout looking ended the game with two on.
The Warriors (58-6) scored all 10 runs with two outs.
