Hays Resigns as Women’s Basketball Coach

LAKELAND, Fla.—Tim Hays has resigned from his position as the women's basketball coach at Southeastern University to accept a position as an assistant coach at the University of Colorado.

Hays has spent the past six seasons on the bench at SEU, leading the team to The Sun Conference regular season championship each year and winning five Sun Conference Tournaments. Twice the Fire advanced to the national semifinal and played for the national championship in 2019.

"When Tim arrived in Lakeland, he was our fourth women's basketball coach in as many seasons. He quickly brought stability to the program and has transformed the SEU into one of the best teams in the country," said Director of Athletics Drew Watson. "I wish him and Crista the very best as they move on."

During his time in Lakeland, Hays posted a 176-11 record and became the winningest coach in program history. This includes a perfect 106-0 in Sun Conference regular season games.

The Fire have had nine All-Americans over the last six seasons.

A national search for the next Southeastern women's basketball coach will begin immediately.
