NEW ORLEANS—The No. 16 Southeastern women's tennis team came up a point short against No. 15 Xavier (La.) in a 4-3 non-conference match Thursday.
The Gold Nuggets had the match clinched before the Fire got on the scoreboard by winning the doubles point with wins at the top two spots and won the top three singles lines.
Southeastern won Lines 4, 5, and 6 in singles play.
Neleah Neiberline and
Irene Lopez came away with a 6-2 win at No. 3 Doubles and also won at No. 4 and No. 5 Singles, respectively. Neiberline was a 10-5 winner in the tiebreaker third set and Lopez was a 6-3, 6-2 winner in her match.
Abigail Damon was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at Line 3 to finish the day.
The Fire return to Sun Conference play on Saturday at SCAD-Savannah.
