Fire Look to Remain Undefeated in Sun Conference Play Against The Bobcats

LAKELAND, Fla. - The No. 1 Southeastern University Fire baseball team looks to host the No. 10 St. Thomas Bobcats in a three-game series this weekend to resume Sun Conference Play. 

 

GAMES: 

No. 1 Southeastern University Fire (34-1, 11-0 SUN) vs. No. 10 St. Thomas University Bobcats (28-6, 10-2 SUN). 

 

Friday: 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. 

Saturday: 12:00 p.m. 

 

FIRE FOCUS

  • The Fire will look to continue their regular season winning streak, having won their last eight regular season games. The Fire are coming off of a two-game series against Webber International where the Fire took both games winning with scores of 8-3 and 7-2 to improve their Sun Conference record to 11-0. 

 
  • The Fire are averaging 10.6 runs and 12.2 hits per game.

 
  • On the mound, the Fire pitching staff has posted a 2.34 ERA with 405 strikeouts in 288 innings. Opponents are batting .216 off Fire pitchers this season. 

 
  • Freshman Gary Lora leads the NAIA in batting average with an average of .463 and is fourth in slugging percentage with .813.

-St. Thomas leads the all-time series against the Fire 13-23.

The Bobcats 

-The Bobcats are currently on a three game winning streak coming off of a 14-3 win over Palm Beach Atlantic University. 

 

-The Bobcats currently hold a .321 batting average and are fifth in the NAIA in hits averaging 10.6 hits per game behind 74 doubles, six triples, and 44 home runs. 

 

-Ezequiel Valdez is the top bat in the Bobcats lineup with a batting average of .406, slugging .654 with ten doubles and seven home runs. 

 

-On the mound for the Bobcats, Richard Sanchez has been the Ace with a 1.21 ERA in 29.1 innings pitched and holding opponents to a .173 batting average.
