Softball Ties Win Streak Record with Sweep of Florida National

LAKELAND, Fla.- After two more wins in run-rule fashion against Florida National University, the No. 20 ranked Southeastern University Fire advanced their win streak to 13 consecutive games and now hold an overall record of 38-7.

Game one against the Conquistadors saw the Fire jump out to an early 1-0 lead after an Erica Stahl RBI single in the bottom of the first. Both teams would go on to be held scoreless for the next three innings until FNU managed to take the 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth after taking advantage of a leadoff hit by pitch. A double and a fielder's choice by the Conquistadors would tie the game at one and a sacrifice bunt and single into center field would allow FNU to take the 3-1 lead.

The Fire offense responded in a big way in the bottom of the frame as they would go on to score 10 runs off of 11 hits as Haleigh Harrell would call ballgame with a walk-off, two-run home run to secure the 11-3 run-rule victory.

Both Jamie Mead and Harrell would end game one a perfect 4-4 with two runs scored while Harrell led the way with four RBI's. Stahl was also perfect in game one going 3-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Claire Sekinger earned her 16th win on the mound after going all five innings and allowing three earned runs off of two hits and two hit by pitches while striking out five FNU batters.

The Fire against got on the board early with a run in the first in game two off of a sacrifice fly by Harrell that scored Riley Sanders but the Conquistadors responded in the next frame with a solo home run into left field to tie the contest at one.

Two more Fire runs in the third would come off of a run down that allowed Sanders to cross home and another RBI for Stahl in the form of a sacrifice fly into left field that would give the Fire the 3-1 edge.

In the fifth, the Fire managed to load that bases for Alex Hilton who drew a walk, allowing Stahl to cross home plate. With the bases remaining loaded, Madison Williams drove a ball over the left field fence for a grand slam, moving the advantage to 8-1 in favor of the Fire.

Katie Atkins would collect the Fire's second walk off of the day with an RBI single into center field, scoring Mead and securing the 9-1 victory in six innings.

Harrell collected three more hits in game two with Ashley Ellison concluding the second contest going 3-3 with a run scored. Williams led the Fire in runs produced with four.

Freshman Kenzie Forrester would move her overall record to 5-0 after going 5.1 innings and giving up just one earned run on six hits. Megan Froehlich would come on in relief with bases loaded in the sixth and get the final two outs for the Fire to help secure the sweep.

The Fire will next head into another Sun Conference weekend series against Keiser University with game one taking place on Friday at 4 p.m. and a doubleheader taking place Saturday at 12 and 2 p.m.
