LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 20 ranked Southeastern University Fire advanced to 35-7 on the season and 17-3 in Sun Conference play with two wins against the University of South Carolina Beaufort.
Game one saw the Fire post a 7-2 win after jumping out to an early 3-0 lead in the first after RBI singles by
Jamie Mead and
Erica Stahl.
Haleigh Harrell advanced the lead to five in the second with a two RBI single that scored
Madison Williams and
Alex Hilton.
Katie Atkins grabbed her team leading 42
nd RBI in the fourth after an RBI groundout that scored
Riley Sanders.
In the fifth, Sanders brought the score to 7-0 with an RBI double over the head of the left fielder but the Fire were unable to keep the Sand Sharks scoreless as they collected two runs in the sixth off of a two-RBI double.
Claire Sekinger advanced to 14-2 on the season after tossing her 11
th complete game with four hits, two earned runs, and 10 strikeouts.
Sanders ended game one going 3-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, and three stolen bases while Harrell ended 2-2 with two RBI's, a run scored, and a walk.
Game two saw the Fire pitching staff toss their 10
th complete game of the season in an 11-0 run-rule victory.
The Fire needed only four innings to plate 11 runs with five runs in the second and four in the third.
The second contest began the same was as game one with Sanders reaching on a single and coming home to score on a Mead RBI single.
The Fire offense broke open in the second after Sanders scored Hilton on an RBI single. Mead then reached on bunt single which also scored Williams. A wild pitch and RBI singles by Stahl and
Ashley Ellison concluded the second with a 6-0 lead.
In the third, an RBI single by Harrell and two RBI single by Atkins set up a Stahl RBI double to collect the 10-0 lead in the third.
The scoring concluded in the fourth with a one-pitch, pinch hit home run by
Peyton Varela to claim the 11-0 victory.
Autumn Hunter advanced to 12-3 after going four innings with three hits, no runs, and two strikeouts.
Kenzie Forrester came on in the fifth to claim the final three outs for the Fire and collected two strikeouts and allowed one hit.
Game three of the series will take place tomorrow at 12 p.m. as the Fire honor five seniors for Senior Day.
