WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A seventh inning spark was not enough to conquer the Keiser Seahawks in the first game of the Sun Conference series with a 7-4 loss.
The Fire had a quick start in the top of the first to lead 2-0 with a single to right center from Luis Cabrera to bring home both Brian Fuentes and Isaac Nunez. Keiser in the bottom half of the first responded with four runs off of three hits and one error.
In the top of second the Fire cut the deficit to one with a Nunez single to right center to bring in Jose Aquino to make the score 4-3.
The Seahawks tacked on two more in the bottom of the third with a throwing error, then a wild pitch to allow runners to score. This lead would not be contested until Brian Fuentes skied a solo home run in the top of the seventh. The Seahawks were able to retire the Fire due to a runner leaving early off of a fly out and were able to make a double play.
Fire ultimately were unable to overcome the deficit with a runner in scoring position due to a fly out.
Fuentes finished the day 2-for-4 with two runs scored, one being a home run, and a RBI single.
The Fire return to action Saturday for a doubleheader against the Seahawks for the remainder of the series.
