JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The No. 20 ranked Southeastern University softball team strung together 33 runs on 33 hits in a two game sweep of Trinity Christian to advance to 33-7 on the season.
Game one saw the Fire toss their 16
th shutout of the season with
Autumn Hunter and
Payton Thomas combining for five strikeouts and just three runs.
The Fire ended the first inning with a 3-0 lead after an error, a sacrifice fly, and an infield single and was extended to six in the second after a two-RBI double by
Katie Atkins.
The squad then strung together a five run inning in the fourth, highlighted by a two-RBI triple by
Ashley Ellison.
The Fire scoring concluded in the fifth with
Peyton Varela posting a two-RBI double and
Linsey Arnett collecting the 15
th and final Fire run via a sacrifice fly into left field.
The 2022 team needed just four stolen bases to claim the single season stolen base record of 143, which they accomplished with nine total stolen bags in game one alone.
Hunter advanced to 11-3 after going three innings and allowing two hits and no runs.
Riley Sanders ended the contest going 3-4 with three runs scored, two RBI's, and four stolen bases while
Haleigh Harrell, Atkins, and Ellison also ended the game with two hits.
The Fire made history again in the first inning of the second game as freshman Sanders became the program's single season stolen base leader with 43.
A two-RBI single by Ellison in the first gave the Fire another early lead but eh Eagles fought back with their first two runs of the day to tie things up for a brief period.
A six run, five hit second inning by the Fire moved the lead to 8-2 after two RBI singles and Ellison's second triple of the day that scored two more.
The Fire topped their six run inning with nine more in the third highlighted by a two-RBI double by
Chapel Cunningham and a three run home run by
Madison Williams.
Cunningham added two more RBI's in the fifth with an infield single to secure the Fire's 19 runs as the Eagles were able to bring two more across in the bottom of the fourth off of a wild pitch and error.
Cunningham and Ellison each collected three hits in game two with Ellison and Cunningham collecting five RBI's each. Atkins ended game two going 2-3 with two runs scored and two RBI's.
Freshman
Kenzie Forrester grabbed her fourth win of the season to collect a 4-0 record after going three innings and allowing just one hit and one earned run and recording four strikeouts.
The Fire will next return home for a Sun Conference weekend series against the University of South Carolina Beaufort.
