Softball Splits Day One with No. 10 Mariners

BRUNSWICK, Fla.- In the first two contests of the Top 25 showdown between the No. 19 Southeastern University and No. 10 College of Coastal Georgia, both teams collected a win as the Fire advanced to 25-6 and a matching 9-2 SUN record with the Mariners.
 
Game one was won by an 11 strikeout, one-hit performance by Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week in Claire Sekinger and she collected her sixth shutout of the season in the Fire's 2-0 victory.
 
An RBI fielder's choice by Madison Williams in the second was the deciding run for a majority of the contest with Erica Stahl adding an insurance run in the top of the seventh with a two-out RBI double that scored Jamie Mead to secure the 2-0 win.
 
The Fire outhit the Mariners 6-1 in game one with Ashley Ellison going 2-3 and a run scored.
 
In the second game of the series, the Mariners took advantage of 10 Fire freebies including nine walks and an error to take the 6-5 victory and even the series at one.
 
Haleigh Harrell kept the Fire within striking distance as she ended game two going 2-3 with all five Fire RBI's off of a three RBI home run in the fourth and a two RBI single in the sixth.
 
The Fire will look to secure the series and the top spot in the Sun Conference tomorrow with the series finale at 12 p.m.
