Softball Sweeps SUN Series with Two Wins Against Bobcats

LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 19 ranked Southeastern University softball team completed their second three-game SUN Conference series sweep today after taking both games of the doubleheader from St. Thomas University by scores of 3-2 and 3-0 to advance their conference record to 8-1.

In game one, the 24-5 Fire took the narrow 3-2 victory over the Bobcats off of seven hits and one error.

Daniella Bautista gave the Bobcats the early lead in the top of the first with an RBI single into center field but was matched with a Fire run in the bottom of the frame off of a sacrifice fly by Erica Stahl that scored Riley Sanders.

The Bobcats and the Fire went run-for-run again in the second after Sophia Negron brought home the second Bobcat run off of an RBI infield single. Alex Hilton grabbed her first RBI of the day in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly into center field that scored Ashley Ellison to even the score at two.

Both teams were held scoreless until the sixth when Haleigh Harrell broke the tie with a single up the middle that again scored Ellison, securing the 3-2 victory.

Autumn Hunter advanced to 9-3 on the season after allowing only two earned runs and striking out three.

Ellison ended game one 2-2 with two doubles and two runs scored.

Game two saw Claire Sekinger advance to 8-1 after giving up five hits and no runs through her seventh complete game of the season.

Both offenses were again held silent until later innings when the Fire took the 2-0 lead off of Hilton's first home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth. Jamie Mead would then score Madison Williams on an RNI groundout to secure the 3-0 victory and SUN series sweep.

The Fire was held to only four hits in game two with Sanders going 1-2 with a triple.

A busy week will be ahead of the Fire as they travel to Brunswick, Ga. to take on the No. 10 ranked Coastal Georgia on Tuesday and Wednesday and will then travel to Miami Gardens for a three game weekend series against Florida Memorial.
