THOMASVILLE, Ga.—A new win streak is underway for the Southeastern softball team.
The Fire bounced back from a 5-0 loss on Monday with 8-0 and 3-0 wins at Thomas on Tuesday to win the series and improve to 21-5 on the year.
In the first game, the Fire bats came alive for 14 hits and wasted little time getting going with
Katie Atkins making it 2-0 with a double to center and
Haleigh Harrell's triple made it 3-0 after a half inning.
That was more than enough run support for freshman
Claire Sekinger who had a no-hitter through six and a third. Sekinger struck out four, walked one, and yielded just two hits with both coming in the bottom of the seventh.
Leah Gonzalez drove in a run in the third with a single to left and the Fire took advantage of a misplay in the outfield to add another to go up 5-0. Atkins drove in one more with a single to center in the fourth and an
Erica Stahl double made it 7-0 in the fifth.
Jamie Mead added an RBI single to left in the seventh to finish a 2-for-2 day with three runs scored and three walks. Atkins finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Gonzalez and
Riley Sanders had two hits each.
Autumn Hunter worked five scoreless innings in the second contest, allowing just one hit and three walks. The sophomore struck out two and coaxed eight groundouts. Sekinger earned the save with three strikeouts in a perfect pair of innings in relief.
A solo homer by Stahl gave the Fire a 1-0 advantage in the third and reached on an error in the fifth which allowed a run to score.
Alex Hilton added a sacrifice fly in the sixth for the final tally.
Sanders led the way at the plate with two hits.
The Fire return to conference play on Friday at 4 p.m. against St. Thomas.
