LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern's program record 26-game win streak came to an end with an 11-8 loss to Indiana Tech Thursday night.
The upset-minded Warriors started strong in the first inning with some small ball, placing some tough to field bunts on the wet grass to set up a pair of doubles to cap off a four-run inning.
Abdel Guadalupe led off the bottom of the first with his 10
th home run of the season, and
Isaac Nunez followed suit in the third with a two-run homer to get SEU within a run.
A four-run fourth featured three more Indiana Tech home runs and another coming home on the third Fire error of the game to take an 8-3 lead.
Guadalupe homered again in the seventh for the 39
th of his career, setting a new program record and getting the Fire back within four.
The Warriors added three in the ninth and needed them because the Fire got an RBI single from Nunez and a three-run homer by
Brian Fuentes with nobody out. Reliever Kris Massey settled in after the Fuentes homer and a single to
Gary Lora to get a strikeout, fly out, and ground out to end it.
Nunez finished 4-for-5 with three RBIs and Guadalupe was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Fuentes and
Sam Faith had two hits each. SEU hitters posted 11 strikeouts on the night.
The Fire are back to Sun Conference play next Friday to begin a three-game series at Thomas.
