LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 19 Southeastern University Fire women's tennis team fell to the RV St. Thomas University Bobcats 5-2 in an intense Sun Conference match at the Beerman Family Tennis Complex Saturday afternoon.
After dropping the top line of doubles 6-1,
Neleah Neiberline and
Abigail Damon evened things up with a 6-1 victory of their own at line three. The duo of
Priscila Baptista and
Martina Picardi battled back from a 5-1 deficit to even things up 6-6 at line two. Baptista and Picardi would see a match point in the tiebreaker, however, ultimately they would fall 10-8 as St. Thomas took the pivotal doubles' point.
Letizia evened up the match 1-1 with a victory in straight sets at top line singles. Picardo pulled the Fire ahead of the Bobcats 2-1 with a two-setter at line two.
However, St. Thomas responded with three-straight wins at lines three, four, and six to cement the match in their favor with a 4-2 lead.
The Fire are back in action on Monday versus Davenport University at the USTA National Campus in Orlando. Match time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
