ORLANDO, Fla.- The No. 19 Southeastern University Fire women's tennis team impressed on Monday afternoon with a 6-1 handling of the NCAA Division II Davenport University Panthers at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando.
The Fire started doubles' play strong with a 6-2 win at line two by
Priscila Baptista and
Martina Picardi. However, the Panthers responded to take lines one and three to take a 1-0 advantage over SEU.
However, that would be the lone point of the match for the Panthers, as the Fire swept Davenport in singles' action 6-0.Â
Beatrice Letizia and
Martina Picardi each won their second-straight singles' matches and improved to 6-1 each at the top two lines of singles play. The win by Picardi in straight sets at line number one cemented the victory for SEU with a 4-1 lead over DU.
Abigail Damon earned a thrilling third-set tiebreaker victory at line six, winning the extra session by a score of 11-9.
Southeastern returns to Sun Conference play this Saturday versus the Warner University Royals. The match will be played on the campus of Webber International University at 1:00 p.m.
