Softball Sweeps Truett

LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern bounced back with a pair of wins in Thursday's doubleheader against Truett-McConnell, picking up the first win with the offense, and winning the second with a stellar pitching performance.

The Fire (5-3) took the first game 8-0 in six innings and the second game by the score of 2-0.

In the first game, the Fire took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by Katie Atkins, and a two-run single to center by Madison Williams.

That was plenty for sophomore pitcher Autumn Hunter, who went all six innings with six strikeouts and two walks. Hunter allowed just four hits with eight flyouts to earn her second win of the season.

In the fifth, Ashley Ellison singled to center field to score Erica Stahl to make it 4-0. In the sixth, Haleigh Harrell led off the inning with her first home run of the season. Leah Gonzalez added an RBI single to right. With runners on second and third, Peyton Varela hit a two-run single to center to end the game.

Stahl had two hits and two runs scored and drew a walk.

Claire Sekinger threw a complete game shutout in her first collegiate start, punching out five, walking zero, and allowing just three hits. The freshman needed just 87 pitches to finish the job.

A sacrifice fly by Gonzalez in the bottom of the first scored Madison Williams. In the fourth, freshman Alex Hilton singled up the middle to score Ellie Perez.

Hilton finished the game 2-for-3.

The Fire will go on the road for the first time this season on Tuesday to take on Florida National.
