Softball Drops Two to No. 15 Freed-Hardeman

LAKELAND, Fla.- The Southeastern University softball team dropped to an even 3-3 today after getting swept by the No. 15 team in the nation in Freed-Hardeman University by scores of 5-1 and 5-0.
 
In game one, Chloe Winters advanced to 2-0 after conceding only one hit in seven innings and striking out nine Fire hitters. Kennedy Harris led off the game with her first of three home runs as the Lions jumped ahead early. The Fire scratched one out in the fourth and tied the game 1-1 after two errors by the Lions brought Madison Williams home. The Lions would answer back quickly with three more runs in the fifth after back-to-back home runs and a double brought the score to 4-1. The 5-1 loss would be solidified in the seventh as Sophie Dunavant would launch the Lion's fourth long ball of the contest. Sophomore Autumn Hunter would be charged with the loss and move to 1-2 on the season.
 
Game two would see All-American pitcher Brittany Adair shutout the Fire and move to 2-0 behind 12 strikeouts and allowing only three hits. The Lions against got on the board early with an RBI fly out and would advance their lead to 4-0 in the third after a three-run home run by Caitlin Mitchell. Harris would extend the lead to 5-0 after her third homer of the day in the top of the fourth. Payton Thomas would get credited with her first loss of the season after allowing four hits and five earned runs through 3.2 innings pitched. Freshman Kenzie Forrester would make her collegiate debut after taking over for Thomas and allowing only one hit and striking out three in her 3.1 innings.
 
Williams, Haleigh Harrell, and Ashley Ellison each recorded a hit in game two.
 
The Fire will look to bounce back on Thursday as they take on the receiving votes Truett McConnell at home.
