Fire Even out the Year with a Royals Victory

LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Southeastern men's basketball team improved to 5-5 on the season (3-2 SUN) after winning their second consecutive Sun Conference matchup with their 64-57 victory over Warner University.

The Fire scored on their very first possession of the game with Joshua Blazquez finding Riley Minix open for a three-pointer. The Fire continued to show offensive success as they were able to gain a double-digit lead of 26-16 with 6:21 remaining in the half. The Royals were able to cut the deficit to four, before another Minix three-pointer and an eventual free throw to put the Fire up 32-26 before heading into the half.

As a team at the half, the Fire shot 35% from the field, 26% from beyond the arc and 16.7% from the free throw line.

Minix recorded a double-double in 18 minutes with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Coming out of the half, the Royals seemingly caught some momentum and went on a 5-0 run to put themselves within a point from Southeastern. The Fire responded with a run of their own going on a 10-3 run to extend their lead to eight. The Fire would lead by as much as 14 with 49 seconds remaining and naturally would take the victory as time expired.

Southeastern finished shooting 39% from the field, 29% from the three-point line, and 16% from the free throw line.

Minix led all in both points (24), rebounds (23), and steals (3). Sean Shore added 16 points and 4 assists, shooting 50% from the field.

The Fire return to action Friday, December 9th against Florida College at 7 p.m. in Temple Terrace, Fla.
