Fire's Comeback Fall Short Against the Falcons

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Southeastern University men's basketball team fell to 5-6 after an 89-77 loss to the No.11 ranked Florida College Falcons. 

 

The Fire found themselves trailing early by 12 points within the first ten minutes of the ball game. The Fire struggled to get some shots to fall and trailed as much as 17 points with a little over five minutes remaining at the half. 

 

At the half, Southeastern trailed 45-29, shooting 33% from the field, 28.6% from behind the arc, and 100% from the free throw line. 

 

The Fire came out in the second half and started to find a better rhythm as shots started to hit in their favor. The Fire trailed by as many as twelve and put together a 9-3 run late in the game to get momentum going to try and overcome their deficit. Despite shooting 48% and 33% from the three-point line, the Fire couldn't get any closer than 12 with 0:45 remaining. 

 

As a team, Southeastern shot 41%, 31% from the three-point line, and 80% from the free throw line. 

 

Riley Minix finished leading the game in four categories with 35 points, shooting 66%, 15 rebounds, and two blocks. 

 

Joshua Blazquez led the team in assists with five and added eight points and five rebounds. Sean Shore scored double figures with 13 and added four rebounds. 

 

The Fire return to action tomorrow (December 10th) at 4 p.m. in The Furnace to host Johnson University.
