Women's Basketball Fends off Warriors in SUN Victory

LAKELAND, Fla.- Southeastern women's basketball claimed a winning record tonight as they moved to 5-4 and 3-1 in Sun Conference play with an 81-76 victory over Webber International.
 
The Fire edged the Warriors in the first quarter, 19-17, behind a combined 12 points from Gabby Suarez and Raegan Linster while collectively going 7-16 from the field (44%). Down by two halfway through the first, two made free throws by Suarez would tie the contest at 13. A shot from distance by Emilia Sexton would give the Fire a two-point cushion heading into the second.
 
A 12-22 effort (55%) by the Fire would results in 30 points in the second period with Kiki Britzmann going 3-4 from midrange and 2-3 from distance.
 
Out of the locker room, Linster would give the Fire their largest lead of the contest with a three-point shot that pushed the lead to 52-37. The Warriors would spend the rest of the third period erasing the Fire lead, outscoring the home team 21-13 behind a field goal percentage of 47% and concluding the period down by four.
 
With 6:52 remaining in regulation, a Warrior's three-pointer would bring the contest to 69-68 in favor of the Fire. With the clock winding down to just two minutes, the Warriors would threaten after bringing the contest within three, but a three-point shot by Suarez would give the Fire a comfortable six-point lead that they would ride to an 81-76 victory.
 
Josselin Geer would conclude the contest with a double-double, tallying 17 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. Linster and Britzmann would also record 17 points each, a season high for Britzmann.
 
Southeastern will be back in action on Saturday against Warner University in Lake Wales, Fla. at 2 p.m.
