LAKE WALES- Southeastern women's basketball team (5-5, 3-2 SUN) fell victim to a last second buzzer beater today, dropping a Sun Conference contest to Warner University by a score of 56-54 after holding the lead for a majority of the contest.
The Fire managed just six points total in the final 10 minutes, opening the door for a Royals' comeback after a Fire turnover and Jasmine Edwards jumper with the clock hitting zero.
Southeastern was outscored in three of the four periods by the Royals after opening the contest down 20-16 after 10 minutes behind a 5-15 (33%) collective effort from the field.
The second period proved kinder to the Fire as they would tilt the scales, outscoring the Royals 19-8 behind a 7-14 effort from the field to take a comfortable 35-28 lead into halftime.
Gabby Suarez would lead the second period charge with nine points, going 3-5 from midrange and 3-3 from distance.
The Fire would extend their lead to as much as 10 in the third period with an
Anja Knoflach three-pointer but would see that lead quickly diminished as the Royals ended the period down just two after outscoring the Fire 18-13.
Both offenses would go silent in the final period with the Fire converting just four shots, going 2-8 from the field to allow the Royal's buzzer-beater and fall 56-54.
Suarez would conclude the contest with 19 points while Britzmann would end with a team-high eight rebounds while tallying points on the offensive side.
