The Fire Fire on All Cylinders Over the Night Hawks

LAKELAND, Fla.- The Southeastern University women's basketball team (3-3, 2-0 SUN) picked up their second consecutive Sun Conference victory with an 80-60 win over Thomas University. 

 

The Fire found themselves trailing early to the Night Hawks as Thomas jumped out in front with a 7-2 lead. The Fire would not gain the lead until 8:58 remaining in the second quarter when an Emilia Sexton three-pointer put Southeastern up 21-19. The Fire would lead by as much as six in the second quarter with six minutes remaining before the Night Hawks went on a 10-3 run to lead at the half 37-36. 

 

In the first half, Southeastern shot 38% from the field, 27% from beyond the arc, and 71% from the free throw line. 

 

Emilia Sexton led the half with 15 points and added an assist and a steal. 

 

Coming out of the half, both teams traded leads back and forth with neither team gaining a comfortable lead. The Fire were tied 50-50 with under two minutes remaining in the third before igniting a 20-2 run through the fourth to lead 70-52 with a little over five minutes remaining in the game. Southeastern continued to execute on the offensive side to lead as many as 24 and take the victory. 

 

As a team, Southeastern shot 43.5% from the field, 27% from the three-point line, and 73% from the free throw line. 

 

Emilia Sexton led the game in points with 22 and added five assists and five steals. Josselin Geer had a solid 17 points and nine rebounds and Anja Knoflach added 12 points with four assists and four steals. 

 

Gabby Suarez led the team in assists with six and added 14 points, and six assists. Raegan Linster led the team in rebounds with 13. 

 

The Fire return to action Friday, November 25th against the No. 1 Thomas More University in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
