Fire Drop Sun Contest in Miami Gardens


MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - The Southeastern University volleyball team fell to 6-11 overall and  2-4 in Sun Conference play today with a 3-1 loss to St. Thomas University.

 

Set one saw the Fire tie and exchange the lead a total of 13 times before St. Thomas went on a 5-1 run to get their most comfortable lead of the set with it being 14-10. Bobcats remained in the lead to close out set one 25-20. 

 

Set two saw no lead being more than three between both teams. Once both teams tied it at 20-20, the Fire found themselves trailing trying to complete the comeback. The Fire evened it out at 24, with back-to-back kills from Baylee Warneke and Kennedy Jones. The Fire took the set 26-24 with a couple attack errors by the Bobcats. 

 

Set Three showed the Bobcats an early 11-4 lead. The Fire responded by going on an 8-2 run to get back within one with a score of 13-12. The Fire battled it out and evened the score at 25-25 with three kills coming in late from Grace Petty (2) and Chapel Cunningham (1). The Fire ultimately dropped the set with a crucial block followed by a kill from the Bobcats.

 

Set four displayed the Bobcats best efforts as they managed to jump out in front seven points to lead the Fire 17-10. The Fire were unable to rally back, only scoring five more points within the set. The Bobcats took set four 25-15. 

 

Grace Petty led the team with 11 kills and 18 digs, Emilia Harding not too far behind added ten kills as well. Aly Postlethwaite and Ryanne Vanwyk totaled 45 assists with Postlethwaite leading with 23. 

 

Southeastern will return home to host Warner University Wednesday, October 12th at 7 p.m. in the Furnace.
