LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 12 ranked SCAD-Savannah Bees (13-2-1, 5-1-1 SUN) had not allowed a goal in 450 minutes of play. The Fire netted four in just 90 minutes to earn the 4-0 shutout on Senior Night.
After holding the NAIA's eighth best team in shots and shots per game to just one in the first 45 minutes of play, the No. 10 ranked Southeastern University women's soccer team (11-2-2, 5-1-1 SUN) grabbed the 1-0 lead just before heading into the locker room. The Fire got off six shots in total in the first period, converting one in the 40
th minute after
Ariadna Lozano took a deflected shot of the keeper and put it into the bottom corner for the Fire lead.
It would take just seven minutes for the Fire to extend their lead to 4-0 with three goals coming from the 52
nd minute to the 59
th minute.
Ramsey Watkins would grab back-to-back goals in the 52
nd and 56
th minutes off assists by
Naira Lopez and
Katie Carnes. Less than three minutes after Watkins' consecutive goals, Lopez would grab her 10
th goal of the season with a shot from the left side into the upper left corner.
The teams combined for 18 shots on goal with SCAD recording eight and the Fire registering 10.
Holly Eddins concluded the contest with six saves in 75 minutes and
Micaela Owen recorded two saves in 14 minutes between the posts.
The Fire will enter the final week of the regular season as they take on Thomas University on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Thomasville, Ga.
