Women's Basketball Makes History with Victory over Night Hawks

LAKELAND, Fla.- After their 90-36 victory tonight against Sun Conference opponent, Thomas University, the No. 2 Southeastern University women's basketball team etched their name into the history book after securing their 100th consecutive SUN contest regular season win under head coach Tim Hays.

When asked about the historic win, Hays stated, "It is just a really cool to look back at all of the individuals that bought in and built this program from the ground up and made this milestone possible."

The Fire opened the first quarter with a 6-0 run and did not look back as they would round out the first 10 minutes up by 20 behind a 47% effort from the field and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. Angela Perry and Jade Odom combined for 15 points in the second period with Odom going a perfect 3-3 from the field. Perry sent the teams into the locker room with a made free throw as the Fire would end the first half up by a score of 41-15.

The third quarter was all Marta Aranda as she managed the unheard of six-point play after drawing the foul on a made three-point attempt and drawing yet another foul after her made free throw, gifting her two more free chances. Aranda ended the third period with 11 of her 16 points after missing just one of her nine shots. The Fire as a whole got hot in the third quarter after a collective 30 points behind a 61% field goal percentage as well as 60% from distance. The unit continued to dominate until the last second as they would go on to conclude the fourth quarter with a 90-36 victory after a three pointer by Jamya Rodgers extended their lead to 54.

Perry ended the night with a team high 20 points after going 7-11 from the field while Aranda's 16 points recorded her as the Fire's second leading scorer. Jade Odom was efficient as she registered 12 points and six rebounds through 24 minutes. Leilah Vigil led the defense with seven rebounds in 13 minutes.

As a team, the Fire ended the contest with a field goal percentage of 46.5% and a free throw percentage of 75%.

The Fire will look to keep this record alive with another SUN win against the College of Coastal Georgia on Saturday at home at 5 p.m.
