SEU Fire Cheer Heads to UCA College Nationals

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.--The Southeastern Fire will be competing at the UCA (Universal Cheerleaders Association) College Nationals Open All- Girl Game Day January 14-16 at the Walt Disney World Wide World of Sports Complex.

Fire cheer has placed third at this competition in 2019 and again last year.

"The girls returned from winter break a week early to fine tune their routine before Nationals," said coach Kathy McClellan. "We've focused on the little things that will set us apart from the other teams.  Each detail that we execute in unison adds to our overall performance."

At the competition, teams first present a Fight Song, which is the traditional song used by the team's school at games. Next, is the Situational Sideline (offense/defense), these are sideline cheers used based off the scenario at the time. Lastly, the team will present a Game Day Timeout. This is similar to a 60 second extended type of cheer which usually includes music or a band and is designed to grab the crowd's attention and promote interaction.

"Our team consists of girls from a variety of background experiences, said McClellan. "We have former gymnastics, dancers and cheerleaders.  With this type of team, we can focus on specific skills each girl brings to the team and build upon those strengths."

Cheerleading is a sport that takes technique, confidence, creativity, and structure. It takes time, practice, and dedication as well and all these individuals are looking forward to displaying all these qualities at this year's 2022 UCA College Nationals.

"The key is a sharp, clean, and well executed routine," said McClellan. "Hitting our stunts, leading the crowd and most of all, having a great time while representing Fire Athletics."
