LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 5 Southeastern University women's soccer team dropped its Sun Conference opener at home to the Ave Maria University Gyrenes 2-0.
Ave Maria netted both of its goals just one minute apart from each other, as Emily Dalton chipped Southeastern keeper
Holly Eddins in the 79th minute and then her younger sister Sarah Dalton netted the second tally in the 80th minute.
Despite the tough result, the Fire out-shot the Gyrenes 16-6 on the night, including 7-4 on frame. SEU also generated seven corner kick opportunities, while AMU had just one.
The win for Ave Maria was the first over Southeastern in its program's history.
The Fire look to bounce back this Saturday, as they face the No. 1 Keiser University Seahawks in West Palm Beach at 11:00 a.m.
