MONTGOMERY, Ala.-- Southeastern wrapped up their time at the Faulkner Invitational with a 3-0 loss against the University of Mobile and a 3-1 win against William Carey University. This puts the Fire at 4-6 overall and 3-1 for the invitational.
GAME ONE:
The Fire battled hard against the undefeated University of Mobile and kept the Rams on their toes from start to finish. Although going 3-0, the battle against the University of Mobile was a close fight.
Freshman Sandy Cao led the team in kills (12) for the game with Kennedy Jones and Chapel Cunningham also contributing with six and five kills, respectively.
The first and second sets were close games with the Rams pulling through at the end. The Fire kept the lead for the majority of the third but then gave it up to the Rams.
Senior Julia Alves was a huge contributor to the Fire's competitive spirit, leading the team in blocks with three, followed closely behind with freshman Chapel Cunningham's two blocks and Grace Petty's one.
The Fire had four aces total accomplished by Grace Petty (2), Alexandra Postlethwaite (1), and Holly Kaczmarek (1). Freshman Alexandra Postlethwaite led the team in assists (21) and
Holly Kaczmarek led with 23 digs with the help of Grace Petty and Sandy Cao, who had 16 and 8 digs, respectively.
GAME TWO:
Southeastern had a 3-1 win over William Carey with a win in the first set, a loss in the second, and back-to-back set wins to finish off the match.
The first set was a quick win due to the big lead that the Fire took advantage of early in the game. The Crusaders made a comeback in the second set to tie the game up 1-1. The Fire then won the next two sets that were both neck-and-neck.
Sandy Cao again led the team in kills with 21 total, followed by Kennedy Jones with 17 and Jordyn Stiger with 8. Stiger also had 6 blocks for the Fire, Grace Petty with 2 blocks, and Kennedy Jones with 2.
Petty again had two aces for Southeastern and freshman Alexandra Postlethwaite had two as well. Postlethwaite more than doubled her assist performance from game one with 50 assists. Holly Kaczmarek, Sandy Cao, and Grace Petty all had double-digit digs with 31, 17, and 12 respectively.
The Fire are scheduled to be back in action against William Carey University on September 2 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi at 6:00 p.m. eastern.
