THOMASVILLE, Ga.—Southeastern was swept in its Sun Conference doubleheader Friday at Thomas University, losing in the bottom of the seventh, 7-6 in the first game and 2-1 in the second.
In the first game,
Sam Holcomb got the Fire on the board first when she scored on a wild pitch but the Night Hawks came back with two in the first to take the lead on a pair of sacrifice flies, then made it 5-1 in the second on a pair of doubles.
Lauren Watters drove in
Erica Stahl in the third, then an RBI fielder's choice by
Kaley Sarasty got the Fire within two. In the fifth, Stahl's first collegiate home run tied the game at five. Thomas answered with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning to go back up a run, but the Fire again answered when Watters walked with the bases loaded.
A bases-loaded single with an out in the bottom of the seventh gave the game to the hosts.
Stahl was 4-for-4 in the game and Holcomb finished with three runs scored.
Freshman pitcher
Autumn Hunter worked 2.1 innings non-consecutively to take the loss after allowing five earned on six hits.
Peyton Varela worked 4.1 innings, allowing two earned on seven hits.
An RBI double by Watters in the first inning of Game 2 gave SEU its only run of the game. Thomas got both of its runs in the third on a sac fly and an RBI single.
Watters was 3-for-3 in the second contest and
Katie Atkins added two hits.
Hunter and Froelich each worked three innings in the circle with Hunter allowing one earned on four hits and Froelich with three hits allowed and a strikeout.
The Fire return to action on Tuesday with a non-conference doubleheader at Florida National.
