MIAMI, Fla.—The Fire posted just 12 hits in 14 innings of play Tuesday dropping both games of their doubleheader at Florida National by the scores of 4-2 and 7-2 to move to 25-20 on the season.
A bases-loaded walk to
Katie Atkins got the Fire on the board first in the first inning of play, but the Conquistadors (20-12) got an RBI double followed by an RBI single to take the lead. A two-run double in the fourth by FNU made it 4-1.
The Fire got one back in the sixth on an RBI groundout by
Sam Holcomb.
Madison Williams and
Britt Robinson had two hits each. In the circle,
Autumn Hunter went 3.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits with a strikeout and two walks.
Four runs in the second and three more in the third gave Florida National more than enough as the Fire scattered seven hits in the game with Williams responsible for two. A two-out, two-run double by Holcomb in the fifth.
The Fire threatened again in the sixth with a pinch-hit single through the left side by
Jaz Szierer and a single by
Linsey Arnett, but a fly out ended the inning.
Payton Thomas allowed four earned on five hits and was replaced by Payton Varela who allowed two earned on seven hits over 4.1 innings of work.
The Fire are back in action on Saturday with a doubleheader against Warner starting at 2 p.m.
