Softball Splits Doubleheader at No. 18 Warner

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The No. 23 Southeastern University softball team split their doubleheader against No. 18 Warner University to move their record to 22-9 and 4-2 against TSC opponents.

The Fire relied on pitching in both games as Autumn Hunter recorded a career-high eight strikeouts in the 3-2 loss in game one while Payton Thomas threw six shutout innings in game two before Hunter entered in relief to pick up the save in the 1-0 win.

GAME ONE:

SEU jumped out to a 1-0 lead after Lauren Watters hit a sacrifice fly that scored Sam Holcomb. Hunter followed that up by striking out the side in order in the bottom half of the inning.

With the score still at 1-0 in the fifth, a single by Erica Stahl scored Hannah Bonner to give the Fire a 2-0 advantage.

A wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth allowed two Warner baserunners to score and they took the lead for good with a RBI single later in the inning.

GAME TWO:

Another pitchers duel ensued in the second game of the day. After Stahl hit an RBI double to right-center field that scored Madison Williams, neither team allowed another run to score.

The Fire couldn't push any more runs across despite racking up nine hits against the same pitcher they faced in game one.

Thomas got the job done for Southeastern, working out of multiple jams on her way to stranding nine Warner baserunners. Her final line included six innings pitched, allowing only two hits, four walks, and two strikeouts.

The Fire have a day off before another road doubleheader when they travel to Babson Park to take on the Webber International Warriors on Saturday, March 27th at 12:00 and 2:00 pm.
