Pitching Powers Softball Past Trinity Baptist

LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern improved to 21-8 on the year as the 25th-ranked Fire swept their Tuesday doubleheader with Trinity Baptist by the scores of 4-0 and 5-0.
 
In 14 innings, the Fire pitchers allowed just four hits with 12 strikeouts.
 
Payton Thomas improved to 8-3 on the season, throwing five shutout innings in the first game with four strikeouts and three walks. The sophomore allowed just one hit. Megan Froelich allowed just one hit and had a strikeout over the next two innings to finish the game.
 
At the plate, a Madison Williams RBI double gave the Fire a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Southeastern added three in the next inning with a sacrifice fly by Ramsey Sullivan, and RBI single by Kaley Sarasty, and an RBI single by Sam Holcomb.
 
Holcomb finished 2-for-4.
 
In the second game, Autumn Hunter threw four shutout innings with six strikeouts and two walks and allowed just one hit to earn her 11th win of the season. Froehlich picked up her second save of the year with three shutout innings, allowing one hit and picking up a strikeout.
 
The Fire had four consecutive two-out hits in the bottom of the first with Kaley Sarasty driving in the first two runs of the game on the fourth with a single to right. In the fourth, the Fire made it 3-0 with a double steal with Williams heading for second on a first-and-third play drawing the throw and allowing Sullivan to take home.
 
Holcomb picked up her fourth home run of the season in the sixth with a two-run shot to left.
 
Lauren Watters and Linsey Arnett were 2-for-2 in the game. Holcomb was 2-for-4.
 
The Fire are back in action on Thursday for a Sun Conference doubleheader at Warner.
