MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.—The No. 25 Southeastern University softball team split their doubleheader against St. Thomas today, winning the first game 9-3 and dropping the second by a score of 7-3.
GAME ONE:
The Fire wasted no time getting the bats going as they scored nine unanswered runs before St. Thomas scored three in the bottom of the third inning. SEU tallied five runs in the first inning thanks to a single by
Katie Atkins that scored
Sam Holcomb, followed by an RBI double by
Erica Stahl that scored
Madison Williams.
In the second inning, RBI singles from
Hannah O'Shields,
Lauren Watters, and
Ramsey Sullivan extended the lead to 8-0.
Erica Stahl tallied the ninth and final run of the first game when she tripled to left field and
Sam Holcomb came around to score.
Autumn Hunter got the start and went five strong innings despite running into some trouble in the third. Her final line included three hits, three earned runs, two walks, and four strikeouts.
Megan Froehlich pitched two shutout innings in relief and struck out two batters.
GAME TWO:
It was a different story in game two as St. Thomas scored the first seven runs of the game. After tallying four runs in the second, the Bobcats scored one in the third and two in the fourth.
SEU was able to push three runs across in the final two innings, scoring two of those runs on two errors by the Bobcats and the other on a double from Atkins.
The Fire (19-8, 3-1 TSC) return home for a doubleheader against Trinity Baptist on Tuesday, March 23
