Baseball Splits Saturday Doubleheader with Webber International

LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 2 Southeastern University baseball team split a Saturday doubleheader with the No. 25 Webber International University Warriors. The Fire dropped game one 5-3 before cementing the series win with a 5-2 victory in the second contest.

GAME ONE:

Southeastern saw its 40-game home win streak snapped with the loss.

The Fire struck first with two runs in the bottom of the second after junior infielder Sam Faith singled home Nick Bottari and then senior infielder Austin James brought Faith across the plate on a SAC bunt-RBI to put SEU ahead 2-0.

Bottari added to the Fire lead with his 13th home run of the season in the bottom of the third, a three-run shot to left that grew the Southeastern advantage 3-0.

The Warriors found the answer in the top of the fifth on a three-run homer by catcher Cale Jones to knot things up 3-3.

Senior right-handed pitcher Christian Camacho battled on the mound in the no decision, tossing seven innings, allowing three hits, three earned runs, four walks and five strikeouts.

Webber International got the go-ahead runs in the top of the ninth on a two-RBI double down the left field line by shortstop Noberto Navarro.

GAME TWO:

The Fire gradually grew their advantage over the early innings against the Warriors. Bottari got SEU on the board in the bottom of the first on an RBI-single through the left side that brought Anthony Carrera home. Faith belted his ninth home run of the year in the bottom of the second to put the Fire ahead of the Warriors 2-0.

Faith drove in another in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI-single to left field that brought Colton Onstott home and put SEU ahead 3-0.

Junior right-handed pitcher Bryce Mulcahy made a triumphant return to the mound from injury in the start, tossing 5.2 innings, allowing five hits, one run, walking three, and striking out seven to improve to 2-1 on the season.

After the Warriors got one across in the top of the sixth, junior outfielder Raymond Gonzalez tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the frame on a bases-loaded infield single that brought Faith home and put the Fire ahead 5-1.

WIU made it a 5-2 game in the top of the eighth, which led SEU head coach Adrian Dinkel to call upon senior left-handed pitcher Ryan Munoz to shut things down in the top of the ninth. Munoz struck out two of the three he faced, as he earned his second save in as many days.

The Fire take a pause from TSC play next week to host the No. 19 Freed-Hardeman University Lions in a four-game series starting with a single-game on Thursday 6:30 p.m.
