LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern won its eighth-consecutive game decided by one run, and improved to 18-7 with wins over Calumet by the scores of 2-1 and 5-1.
Payton Thomas improved to 6-2 on the season, retiring the first 14 hitters she saw and allowed one unearned run on one hit over six innings of work.
Autumn Hunter struck out three of the four she faced in the seventh to earn the save.
All the offense for the Fire came in the third when
Katie Atkins drilled a two-run homer over the left field wall. Atkins finished 2-for-3 as did
Sam Holcomb.
The Fire gave up a run in the top of the first in the second game, but answered back with four in the third, doing so on five hits. The first six hitters of the inning all reached with
Erica Stahl bringing in a run on a hit by pitch with the bases loaded, and consecutive RBI singles by
Hannah O'Shields,
Kaley Sarasty, and
Lauren Watters.
Southeastern tacked on its final run in the sixth on an RBI single by Holcomb.
Williams, Holcomb, O'Shields, and Watters all had two hits in the second game.
Megan Froelich improved to 3-1 in the circle, allowing just on earned on two hits in four innings of work.
Peyton Varela made her season debut throwing three perfect innings to pick up a save.
The Fire return to action next Saturday at St. Thomas.
