JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—Southeastern broke out the bats in a big way during their non-conference doubleheader at Trinity Baptist.
The Fire generated 24 runs and the pitching staff was stellar, allowing just one run on three hits to come away with a 10-0 win in Game 1 and a 14-1 win in Game 2.
Southeastern got off to a 3-0 lead after a half inning with Jacksonville native
Madison Williams driving in a run with a double to left center, followed by a sacrifice fly to second base by
Lauren Watters and an RBI double by
Erica Stahl.
In the fourth, the Fire scored seven, getting three more off the bat of Williams on her third homer of the season over the center field wall.
Sam Holcomb,
Hannah Federico, and
Linsey Arnett each drove in a run as well.
That was more than enough support for
Payton Thomas who retired the first 12 she faced. Thomas posted six strikeouts and just one walk in the complete game shutout.
In Game 2,
Katie Atkins drove in Holcomb with a sacrifice fly in the first then Holcomb had a bases-loaded RBI single back to the pitcher to score
Britt Robinson in the second. Trinity Baptist scored its lone run of the day in the bottom of the second on an error on a bunt.
During the top of the fourth, the Fire exploded for 12 runs to break the game open. A throwing error got the Fire going and the Fire sent 17 hitters to the plate. A
Haleigh Harrell double drove in a run, as did a fielder's choice by Atkins and a single by Stahl. Robinson brought in another when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and
Hannah Bonner brought in two with a single down the left field line.
Holcomb cleared the bases with a three-run double, then scored on a triple by
Jaz Szierer.
Megan Froelich picked up her second win of the season, allowing a run on two hits with five strikeouts in four innings of work. Holcomb worked a 1-2-3 fifth in relief with a strikeout.
The Fire return to action next week when they travel to the University of Mobile for a doubleheader before heading to Gulf Shores.
