AVE MARIA, Fla. - The Fire remained undefeated in conference play after a 101-48 point win over Ave Maria this evening. SEU advances to 19-0 in The Sun Conference.
The Fire came out strong, knocking down a three-pointer by
Madi Hecox just nine seconds into the game. The lead quickly stretched to 9-0 before the Gyrenes knocked down a three to get them on the board.
While Ave Maria hit six three-pointers, the pressure from SEU forced them into 31 total turnovers. The Fire had 21 steals and pulled down 51 rebounds.
The Fire scored 38 of their points off of Ave Maria's turnovers, giving them a huge momentum advantage throughout the game.
Gabrielle Ozoude led the Fire with 28 points and six rebounds. Hecox put up 13 points and six steals, while
Bekki Kalaydjiev had 16 points and five assists.
Jade Odom also accounted for 15 points, shooting 3-4 from the three-point line. The Fire had five players with six rebounds, limiting Ave Maria's chances and giving SEU more offensive opportunities.
The Fire shot 48% from the field, 33% from three-point range, and 75% from the foul line.
SEU is back on the road this Saturday in their last regular season matchup. They will face Thomas University at 2 p.m.
