Softball Splits with No. 11 Campbellsville

LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern rallied to win the first game of their doubleheader against 11th-ranked Campbellsville but failed to manufacture runs in game two.

The Fire plated eight runs on nine hits in the sixth inning to end the first game 10-2 by run rule but walked seven hitters and stranded 12 base runners in a 6-1 loss in the second.

Campbellsville got an RBI triple in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead and extended it to two with a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Southeastern answered in its half of the fourth with a pinch-hit RBI single by Lauren Watters. Kaley Sarasty tied the game with an RBI double to center in the bottom of the fifth.

In the sixth, Haleigh Harrell, Madison Williams, and Sam Holcomb hit consecutive doubles to give the Fire a 3-2 lead. With two outs, Katie Atkins hit a three-run homer to right to put the Fire up 6-2. Watters came up with another RBI single as did Lindsay Arnett. Madison Williams' second double of the inning drove in the final two runs of the game.

Hannah O'Shields had a team-best three hits in the game. Watters was 2-for-3, and Holcomb and Williams both finished 2-for-4 with Williams driving in three runs.

Autumn Hunter earned her fourth win of the season, allowing two earned runs on six hits in six innings of work. The freshman struck out three and walked three.

In the second game, the Fire issued seven walks with two coming with the bases loaded. Five of CU's six runs came in the second, getting a pair of RBI singles and an RBI double along with a bases-loaded walk.

The Fire had the bases loaded in the second and third and were unable to score. The lone run came in the third on an RBI single to right by Watters, who finished 2-for-4. Sarasty also was 2-for-4 and Madison Williams was 2-for-3, as was Atkins.

The Fire return to action on Thursday with a doubleheader against William Carey at 1 p.m.
