BABSON PARK, Fla. - In their second matchup of the season, SEU defeated Webber International University 82-43. Outrebounding the Warriors 61-39, the Fire were able to score on second chance opportunities, giving them momentum throughout the game.
Â
While the Fire didn't have a great shooting night offensively, shooting 44% from the field and 22% from the three-point line, their extra possessions off rebounds and forced turnovers helped fuel them and create baskets. The Fire swiped 20 steals on the night.
Â
SEU scored 20 points off Webber's turnovers, and had 19 second-chance points from offensive rebounds. As a team, they accounted for 23 assists, 10 of those were from
Madi Hecox. Hecox had a well-rounded game with 17 points, six rebounds, six steals, and the 10 assists mentioned before.
Â
Gabrielle Ozoude had a game-high of 26 points and 16 rebounds, with seven of those rebounds being on the offensive end.
Â
Ozoude talks about what she thinks was key to gaining momentum early in the game. "Boards and possessions. Anything you do, you know, if you can make a mistake and get that possession back, that's great for your team. So, I think we were really relentless on being scrappy and getting those boards."
Â
Ozoude also spoke on how the team's theme for the past few weeks has been "consistency." Tonight SEU made great strides to a more consistent four quarters of play.
Â
The Fire is back on the road next Thursday against Ave Maria.
