LAKE WALES, Fla.- After a two-week pause to the season for the holidays, the No. 4 ranked Southeastern University women's basketball team advanced to 15-1 after a dominating 108-27 win over Brescia University to tie their largest margin of victory this season.
Angela Perry continued her stellar season after dropping 13 points through six minutes in the first quarter as the Fire ended the first quarter with a 29-9 lead over the Bearcats while
Rebecca Cook led the defense with three rebounds in the first period. As a team the Fire shot 61.1% from the field while going 7-8 from the free throw line. In the second period,
Leilah Vigil tied her season high 12 points and would go on to end the contest with 18 points through 15 minutes as well as three steals as the Fire would end the half with a 45-18 lead over the Bearcats.
The overshadowing performance by the Fire continued in the third period as they would go on to score 32 points behind a 71.4 field goal percentage while the Fire defense would hold the Bearcats to only three points in the third quarter. In the final 10 minutes, the Fire tied their largest margin of victory of the season at 83 with
Raegan Linster breaking the 100 point mark with a layup eight minutes into the last period.
Gabby Suarez rounded out the 108-27 Fire victory with a three pointer as the Fire advanced to 15-1.
Perry ended the day as the Fire's leading scorer with 24 points and a team high five blocks with Vigil recording 18 points and three steals in 15 minutes.
Rebecca Cook registered six rebounds with
Marta Aranda leading the Fire with seven assists.
The Fire resume Sun Conference play in their next contest against Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens on January 6
th at 5:30 p.m.
