LAKELAND, Fla.- The Southeastern University men's basketball took their second win of the season tonight in dominating fashion as they took down the Johnson University Suns by a score of 110-62.
The Fire jumped out to an early lead in the first half after two made three pointers and a layup by
Mykhailo Yagodin aided the Fire to a 12-2 lead.
Riley Minix and Yagodin would score the Fire's next twelve points which was highlighted by back-to-back threes and two and one's by Minix.
Ralph Diaz gave the Fire their largest lead of the night thus far with a layup as they went up 30-11 over the Suns. The Fire put up three consecutive made three pointers with 3:39 remaining before the half to go up 52-23 as a layup by
Joshua Blazquez would end the Fire scoring in the first half and send them into the locker-room with a 58-25 lead. Minix ended the first 20 minutes with 18 points and was 7-8 from field goal range. As a team, the Fire put up a 69.7 field goal percentage and 52.9 three point percentage.
Six quick points by
Riley Matticks to open the second half gave the Fire the momentum they had possessed the whole first half.
Jordan Gorman managed a fast break three pointer to advance the Fire lead to 40 with just under 10 remaining.
Aaron Jones broke 100 for the Fire after a three pointer, two made free throws following a foul, and another layup as the Fire brought the score to 103-52.
Edwin Gonzalez got a shot off from behind the three point line with 35 seconds remaining and solidified the Fire's 110-62 victory. Jones was the Fire's top scorer in the second half with nine points with the Fire netting seven of their 10 field goals.
Minix ended the night with a team high 22 points with
Makye Boles leading the defense with seven rebounds.
