Men’s Basketball Cruises to Opening Night Win

LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern put on quite the display during its season opening win over Bacone Tuesday night.
 
The Fire shot 54.4% and held the Warriors to just 20.6% from the field in a 99-50 win at The Furnace.
 
Southeastern scored the first 12 points of the game and held Bacone scoreless for the first 4:00 of the game.
 
The Fire shot 62.2% from the field in the first 20 minutes, helped by an 8-for-16 effort from beyond the 3-point line to build a 58-16 lead at the break.
 
On defense, SEU limited Bacone to just 5-of-33 from the field in the first half.
 
Southeastern saw the lead grow to 53 in the second half with 9:36 to play during an 11-3 run that spanned 100 seconds. The Fire added a 7-0 run over the next 98 seconds to increase the lead to 56 with 8:16 left.
 
Five players for the Fire were in double figures, led by Riley Minix with 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting in just 18 minutes. The junior added six rebounds, three steals two assists, and two blocks.
 
Nathan Mikkelson added 13 points, and Reggie Mesidor chipped in 12 with both players connecting on a pair of 3-pointers. Mykhailo Yagodin tallied 11 points, going 3-of-6 from long range and added three rebounds.
 
The Fire return to action on Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Johnson University (Fla.).
