LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 10 Southeastern University women's soccer team struck early and held firmly to its advantage against the Florida Memorial University Lions. The Fire shut out the Lions 2-0 to improve to 9-3 on the season, including 3-2 in Sun Conference play.
The Fire dominated the shot sheet, outshooting FMU 21-2, including 11-1 on frame.
SEU struck early, as graduate forward
Aisha Solorzano netted her team-leading 10th goal of the season off a through ball from
Hannah Matthews in the 4th minute to put the Fire ahead of the Lions 1-0.
The Fire doubled their advantage in the 29th minute, when freshman forward
Madison Dodd headed in a corner kick from fellow freshman
Meja Kuurne for her first collegiate goal.
"A really cool thing for me was that I have grown up playing with
Chloe Martin (SEU senior defender) and really look up to her," shared Dodd. "She was the first one to come and celebrate with me. Hearing all my family and friends cheering for me in the crowd and all my teammates hugging and congratulating me on the sideline was super cool."
Freshman goalkeeper
Kirsten Sharma made her first collegiate save in the 52nd minute.
The Fire are back in action next Thursday as they travel to Savannah, Ga. to take on the RV SCAD Bees at 7:00 p.m.
