Men's Basketball Drops Road TSC Matchup

Miami Gardens, Fla.—The Southeastern University men's basketball team couldn't hold on to a first half lead and ended up dropping their ninth game of the season to St. Thomas by a score of 63-54.

After surrendering the first four points of the game to the Bobcats, the Fire countered with eight of their own to take the lead that lasted through halftime. SEU was able to stretch their lead to double digits when a three from Karl Jeanty made it 30-20 with a little over five minutes remaining in the half.

The Fire took a 34-29 lead into halftime thanks to some hot shooting from sophomore guard Reggie Mesidor. Mesidor went five-of-eight from the field in the opening half including an impressive four-of-six from 3-PT range.

As a team, SEU shot 44.4% from the field and made six of their eleven attempts from behind the arc to help them take a lead into halftime. Mesidor led all scorers with 14 points at the break.

It was a different story for the Fire shooting the ball in the ball in the second half, going six-of-25 from the field. Meanwhile St. Thomas found their rhythm on offense to convert 48.1% of their attempts, an improvement from their 35.7% mark in the first half.

The game was within reach for Southeastern after another clutch three cut their deficit to 56-54, but St. Thomas answered with a 9-0 run to end the game.

Mesidor finished with a game-high 19 points and Jeanty was just behind him with 15 and added seven rebounds.

Southeastern (10-9, 4-8 TSC) looks to get back in the win column on Saturday when they play host to Keiser University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
