Men's Basketball Drops Fifth-Straight

Lakeland, Fla.- The Southeastern University men's basketball team dropped their tenth game of the season to Keiser University 90-71 despite leading by one point going into halftime. 


This was a tale of two halves; the Fire led the majority of the first half, leading by as much as six points multiple times in the first half. Keiser hit four three-pointers within the last five minutes of the half to take back the lead. The Fire were able to steal back the lead with 25 seconds remaining with a layup by Devon Ford making the Fire head into the half leading the Seahawks 39-38.


Reggie Mesidor provided the Fire a spark with 12 points, nine of them from the 3-point line. Karl Jeanty led the team in rebounding with seven and also added seven points, respectively. 

 

As a team Fire shot 43.3% from the field and 41.2% from the 3-point line.Keiser shot 42.9% from the field and 36.8 from the 3-point line. 

 

Southeastern came out the second half in rhythm and were able to extend their lead to as much as five points. The Fire slowly began losing steam as the Seahawks began to get hot hitting their shots and taking over the lead and eventually going on a 16-0 run with 7:37 remaining in the game 

 

Deshaun Osborne hit a prideful 3-pointer to stop Keiser's run but by then Keiser's momentum seemed to still be too overwhelming.

 

Keiser's shooting improved in the second half shooting 67.8% from the field and 75% from 3-point land. 

 

Individually, Mesidor led the team in scoring with 23 points and adding two steals. Karl Jeanty followed in scoring with 14 points and led the team with eight rebounds, while Deshaun Osborne ended with 13 points and Riley Matticks with 12 points. 

 

Off the bench, Alaowi Talent-Fitzgerald ended with six points and four rebounds. 

 

The Fire (10-10, 4-9 TSC) will look to find their way back on track when they host Warner University Thursday, January 23rd. at 7 P.M.
