Baseball Gears Up for Another Full Week of Non-Conference Home Action

LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 4 Southeastern University baseball team has won 22-straight games since a 9-8 loss to No. 5 Georgia Gwinnett on January 31. With one more victory, the Fire will tie the program record for win streak at 23. SEU looks to do so with another full slate of non-conference action, as the Fire will host six contests within the confines of Ted A. Broer Stadium this week.

FIRE FOCUS:

• SEU leads the NAIA in hits per game (12.917), home runs per game (2.917), team batting average (.392), and team slugging percentage (.738).
• As an offensive unit, the Fire are hitting .384 with runners in scoring position and have .582 success percentage of advancing runners.
• Senior infielder Colton Onstott was named The Sun Conference Player of the Week after hitting .636 (14-22) in six games last week with four home runs and 15 runs batted in. The left-handed bat is hitting .650 (13-20) versus left-handed pitching and is batting .525 (21-40) with runners on base.
• As a pitching staff, Southeastern ranks fifth in the NAIA in total batters struck out (224), sixth in opposing batting average (.213), and 16^th in team earned run average (3.49).
• Right-handed batters specifically are hitting just .199 off of SEU pitchers on the season.
• Senior right-handed pitcher Brenden Heiss was named The Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week this past week after tossing six shutout innings, allowing just a pair of singles, walking only one, and striking out 13 in his start versus Robert Morris.

 
THE FIGHTING SAINTS:

• The Fighting Saints are 0-2 on their trip to Florida thus far, having dropped both games of a doubleheader to Webber International (9-8, 10-2).
• At the plate, USF is hitting a collective .257 with 17 doubles, six triples, nine home runs, and 59 runs batted in.
• Senior catcher Adam Cibulka leads the Fighting Saints with a .414 batting average (12-29), two homers, and 12 RBIs.
• On the mound, the St. Francis pitching staff has posted a 7.42 Earned Run Average, striking out 84 batters and conceding 42 extra-base hits in 114 innings pitched.
• Junior left-handed pitcher Colin Kelly has been solid for the Fighting Saints, posting a 1-1 record and 1.88 ERA in four appearances. In 14.1 innings tossed he has allowed three earned runs and struck out 14 batters.

THE BLUE DEVILS:

• The Blue Devils have won five-straight and are currently taking on Ave Maria in a doubleheader to commence their time in The Sunshine State.
• At the plate, Lawrence Tech is hitting .260 with 11 doubles and 46 runs batted in.
• The Blue Devils are also 27-33 on stolen base attempts.
• On the mound, LTU has compiled a 2.78 ERA with 80 strikeouts in 68 innings pitched.

THE FIGHTING BEES:

• The Fighting Bees come into their Florida-slate having lost four of their last five contests.
• St. Ambrose is batting .242 as a team with 16 doubles, 52 runs batted in, and are 23-27 on stolen base attempts.
• Junior outfielder Shawn Rigsby is the team leader in batting average (.389), hits (14), and RBIs (13).
• The SAU pitching staff has a posted a 5.42 ERA on the season, striking out 64 and surrendering 35 extra-base hits in 80.2 innings tossed.
• Sophomore southpaw James Cormier is 2-0 on the season with a 2.51 ERA. In four relief appearances he has pitched 14.1 innings, allowed four earned runs, and struck out 12.
