LAKE NONA, Fla.- The RV Southeastern University men's tennis team is building considerable momentum as of late. The Fire edged the NCAA Division II Davenport University Panthers to secure their fifth-straight victory. SEU handed DU just its second loss of the season.
The Fire faced a 1-0 deficit to the Panthers after dropping all three lines in doubles' action.
Freshman
Alec Lichter helped shift the momentum for SEU out the gate, earning a two-set victory at the No. 6 line.
At the top of the order, graduate player
Alexandre D'aboville made quick work of his opponent, dropping just a single game in his two-set victory to put the Fire ahead 2-1.
After DU tied things up at the fourth line and pulled ahead 3-2 at the second line, the Fire gritted out a pair of three-set victories to win the match.
First, senior
Felipe Barbosa pulled through 6-4 in the third set at the No. 3 position.
Then, graduate player
Omar Fiorenzato battled to win a tiebreaker second set 8-6 to tie his fifth-line match 1-1. Fiorenzato earned the 4-3 victory for Southeastern with a 6-1 handling of the third set.
The Fire return to Sun Conference play tomorrow, as they host the Webber International University Warriors. Match time at the Beerman Family Tennis Complex is set for 1:00 p.m.
