Baseball to Face Tigers and Night Hawks on the Road this Week

LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 4 Southeastern University baseball team is coming off an offensive outpour displayed over the weekend at Ted A. Broer Stadium. The Fire swept the Grand View University Vikings in a three-game set, outscoring GVU 35-6 on the series. The Fire now shift their focus to a non-conference doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at Edward Waters before heading to Thomasville to open up Sun Conference play versus Thomas this weekend.

FIRE FOCUS:
  • Seven different compiled a total of 10 home runs for SEU during the three-game series against Grand View this past weekend.
  • The Fire are averaging a total of 2.5 long balls per game
  • Senior outfielder Zach Cornell hit .667 (8-12) at the plate with three runs scored, four extra-base hits, 6 RBIs, and was 4-4 on stolen bases versus Grand View, earning Sun Conference Player of the Week recognition.
  • Cornell is hitting an astounding team-best .520 (13-25) at the plate with seven runs batted in through the first six games of the season.
  • Through his first nine innings tossed this season, senior right-handed pitcher Bryce Mulcahy is 1-0, has allowed just one run to score, has only walked two batters, and has struck out 15.
  • Southeastern head coach Adrian Dinkel is sitting at just one win away from the 400th victory of his collegiate head coaching career. In his ninth season as a collegiate head coach, Dinkel sits at 399-110 overall.

FIRE ALL-TIME:
  • The Fire are 20-2 versus Edward Waters all-time. SEU has won 18-straight versus EWC, having not lost to the Tigers since March 20, 2010.
  • The Fire have taken 21 of the 25 all-time matchups with the Night Hawks, winning 15 of the past 17 meetings. During the 25 games, Southeastern has outscored Thomas 187-94. Last season, the Fire swept the Night Hawks in the regular season series, but fell to TU 4-3 in The Sun Conference Tournament.

THE TIGERS:
  • Edward Waters is coming off a 27-35 2019 campaign and is off to a 3-5 start this season.
  • Most recently, the Tigers dropped three of four to receiving votes' Keiser in West Palm Beach.
  • Offensively, Edward Waters has been led thus far by junior outfielder Damanti Thomas. The South Florida State College transfer is hitting a team-best .438 (7-16) with three doubles, a triple, a homer, and seven runs batted in.
  • Senior righty Manuel Guerra is now 2-0 on the season after tossing seven innings against Keiser and striking out two in a 5-2 victory.

THE NIGHT HAWKS:
  • The 2019 Sun Conference Tournament Champions are off to a 4-6 start this season.
  • The Night Hawks took three out of four from Brewton-Parker on the road this past weekend to earn some positive early-season momentum.
  • Senior infielder Jake Bryan has picked up where he left off as one of the most powerful bats in The Sun Conference. Bryan leads TU with a .350 (14-40) batting average, notching three doubles, three home runs, and 12 RBIs thus far on the season.
  • Senior righty Patrick Haley is off to an impressive start on the mound for Thomas. Haley is 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 18 innings logged thus far. Opposing bats are hitting just .219 versus him.
